Tottenham Hotspur welcome fellow top-four hopefuls Everton to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs are currently in pole position to qualify for the Champions League next season with Andre Villas-Boas’s men sitting third in the table. However, with just six points separating them from sixth-placed Everton and north London rivals Arsenal moved to within a single point with a 2-1 win over West Brom on Saturday afternoon, it promises to be a nail-biting finish to the season .
The north Londoners head into the game off the back of Thursday’s grueling 2-2 draw with Basel in the Europa League that saw Gareth Bale, William Gallas and Aaron Lennon all pick up untimely injuries.
After two successive league defeats to Liverpool and Fulham, Tottenham got back to winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 win at Swansea and another win on Sunday would not only tighten their grip on third but also severely dent the Toffees top-four hopes.
However, David Moyes side got the better of this one in the reverse fixture at Goodison Park earlier in the season and three successive victories have kept the Merseysiders in touch of the top-four.
Team News
Tottenham will be without the services of Gareth Bale after the winger was stretchered off in midweek with an ankle injury. Initial fears suggested he could miss the rest of the season but scan’s have revealed no serous damage and he’s expected to return within two weeks.
Aaron Lennon and defender William Gallas are also missing after picking up knee and calf injuries on Thursday but they too are likely to return inside a fortnight. Midfielder Sandro, striker Jermain Defoe and defender Younes Kaboul are also still unavailable.
The absence of Bale and Lennon means Mousa Dembele and Gylfi Sigurdsson are likely to play out wide with Jake Livermore coming in alongside Scott Parker in midfield.
Everton will be without suspended duo Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar for the game. Kevin Mirallas is in line to start after shaking off a minor injury he picked up late on during last week’s 1-0 win over Stoke, but Tony Hibbert is still out with a calf complaint.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Tottenham are going to miss the attacking flair of Bale and Lennon and with Emmanuel Adebayor only scoring 1 league goal in 2013, it’s difficult to see where the goals are going to come from for AVB’s men. Everton are always a hard working and well organised outfit and I can see them frustrating the home side and taking something from the game. Tottenham 1-1 Everton
