Chelsea take on west London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night looking to open a gap between themselves and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues head into the game sitting fourth on goal difference from Spurs so will be looking to take advantage of their game in hand and open up a three point gap which would put them in a strong position to finish in the top-four this season.
Interim boss Rafa Benitez has given Chelseafc.com a team news and injury update ahead of the game with the latest on Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Marko Marin.
Left-back Cole hasn’t played since injuring his hamstring during an FA Cup quarter final win over Manchester United two weeks ago while Cahill has also missed several games with a knee problem, and although Benitez has confirmed the duo are progressing well, tomorrow nights game will still come too soon for them.
The Spaniard also confirmed attacker Marin picked up a slight problem in training on Tuesday but it’s not thought to be too serious. Here is what the boss told the clubs official website:
‘Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill are progressing and doing well but they won’t be ready for this game,’
‘Marko Marin had a little problem but has been training today. He had a problem with his thigh but it’s nothing serious.’
With Chelsea’s packed fixture list not getting any easier, Benitez is expected to once again rotate his squad for the visit to their local rivals, with the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard likely to return to the starting line-up after missing out during Sunday’s 2-1 FA Cup semi final defeat to Manchester City.
