Man Utd v Aston Villa Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Manchester United will look to seal the Premier League title when they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford on Monday night. Here’s a preview for the big game.
Manchester United will look to seal the Premier League title when they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford on Monday night.
United have been offered the chance to win their 20th title with four games to spare after second-placed Manchester City lost 3-1 at Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. The loss leaves City 13 points behind with just 15 points available so a win tonight for United will guarantee they reclaim the title from their ‘noisy neighbours’.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were held to a 2-2 draw by West Ham last time out but still have the chance to eclipse Chelsea’s record points haul of 95 if they win all their remaining fixtures.
While it could be a carnival atmosphere tonight at Old Trafford, relegation-threatened Aston Villa arrive hoping to spoil the party. Villa currently sit 17th in the table – just 3 points above the drop zone – so are desperate to take something away from Manchester.
An away win would not only be a huge boost for Villa’s hopes of staying in the division, it would also confirm the relegation of Queens Park Rangers and Reading.
Team News
Manchester United will be without winger Ashley Young after he was ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury. Paul Scholes remains out with a knee injury but otherwise Sir Alex Ferguson has no fresh injury worries to contend with.
Johnny Evans may come in at the back in place of Nemanja Vidic while Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley will also be pushing for recalls.
Villa are expected to have Gabriel Agbonlahor back after he missed last week’s 1-1 draw with Fulham with a groin strain. But he’s trained this week and should take his place in attack alongside Benteke and Weimann.
Paul Lambert will continue to be without the services of Gary Gardner, Chris Herd, Marc Albrighton and Richard Dunne who are all out through injury.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Aston Villa have a terrible record against United having won just one of their previous 34 Premier League games against them and they let slip a 2-goal lead to lose 3-2 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. We can’t see anything other than a United win to seal the title. Man Utd 2-0 Aston Villa
