Tottenham welcome Southampton to White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon looking to move back into the top-four of the Premier League table.
Spurs currently sit fifth but are just two points behind north London rivals Arsenal with a game in hand and three adrift of Chelsea – who they still have to play at Stamford Bridge next week – so anything but victory over the Saints will be a huge blow to their Champions League ambitions.
Andre Villas-Boas men dropped two valuable points last week when they needed a late own goal to snatch a point at Wigan, but the Portuguese coach will be hoping to build on their superb 3-1 win over Man City the last time out at White Hart Lane.
Welsh winger Gareth Bale should be heading into the game full of confidence after scooping a hat-trick of awards this week, being named the Football Writers’ Player of the Year, PFA Player and PFA Young Player of the Year.
Southampton are almost assured of their top flight status for another season, despite losing 3-0 to West Brom last weekend.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit 13th in the table and need just one more point to reach that all-important 40 point marker, so the south coast club will be desperate to get something from the game and secure Premier League football for another year.
Team News
Tottenham are sweating on the fitness of key midfielder Mousa Dembele after the Belgian was forced off against Wigan last weekend with a hamstring problem. His fitness will be assessed ahead of the game before a decision is made over his involvement.
Tom Huddlestone will hope to start after some impressive displays in midfield in recent weeks. Striker Emmanuel Adebayor returns to the squad after recovering from a knee problem that kept his out of the trip to the DW Stadium, but Sandro, Younes Kaboul and William Gallas all remain on the sidelines.
Southampton will be without the suspended Gaston Ramirez and Danny Fox after the pair were both dismissed last weekend. However, left back Luke Shaw looks likely to play after recovering from an ankle injury.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Tottenham have a superb home record against Southampton, winning 9 and losing 2 of their previous 11 meetings, and with a top-four finish within their sights, I can see the Londoners easing to victory here. Tottenham 2-0 Southampton
