Man Utd v Swansea Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Up & Predicted Score
Manchester United welcome Swansea City to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for Sir Alex Ferguson’s final home game. Here’s a preview with team news for the game
Manchester United welcome Swansea City to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for what promises to be an emotional afternoon as Sir Alex Ferguson takes charge of his final home as manager.
Ferguson announced he’ll retire at the end of this season bringing to an end a trophy-laded 26-year reign at United, and the day will be made extra special as the champions will be presented with the Premier League trophy after wrapping up title No.20 a few weeks ago against Aston Villa.
United fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Chelsea last weekend and the players are sure to want to give their boss the perfect send off with all three points at Old Trafford this weekend.
Swansea arrive in Manchester with little left to play for having secured their top flight status for another season. Michael Laudrup’s men hit a sticky patch following their Capital One Cup win in February that saw them go seven games without victory but that run was ended with a 3-2 win over Wigan in midweek.
Fergie is expected to start legendary midfielder Paul Scholes for the game with the 38-year-old potentially playing his last game at the Theatre of Dreams. Danny Welbeck is also back in contention after missing the defeat to Chelsea but Ashley Young is certainly out.
The big question mark will be over whether Wayne Rooney is included amid reports the striker has asked to leave United this summer. Rafael is suspended so Phil Jones or Chris Smalling will fill in at right back.
Javier Hernandez, Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa are among the players pushing for starts.
Swansea are likely to be without first choice goalkeeper Michel Vorm after the Dutch stopper picked up an injury against Wigan last time out. Gerhard Tremmel is in line to step in. Defender Chico Flores is a doubt and he may join Ki Sung-Yueng and Michu on the sidelines.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
With it being Ferguson’s final home game in charge and United being presented with the Premier League trophy, you’d have to say this is possibly the worst time to play away at Old Trafford. I can’t see past a home win. Man Utd 2-0 Swansea
