Bale Reiterates La Liga Desire And Admits Missing The Champions League
Gareth Bale has fuelled talk of a move this summer after reiterating his desire to play in Spain and admitting he misses playing in the Champions League.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Gareth Bale once again hints at a move to La Liga.
Just as Tottenham fans were getting excited about the imminent arrival of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, Gareth Bale brought them back down to earth with a bump after some untimely, and rather unnecessary, comments in an interview with Esquire magazine.
The Mirror newspaper carry snippets from the interview, in which Bale called Spain the best league in the world and once again confirmed his desire to play there one day.
“I’d say that Spanish football is probably the best I’ve seen. Obviously, I’d like to try other leagues in the future,”
“It’s something that the future holds and it’s something that I’m very interested to try in the least.” Bale is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
The former Southampton youngster then went on to admit he misses playing in Europe’s premier competition where little things like the music play there part in making it so special, while he revealed that he enjoys the attacking instincts shown by teams in the Champions League, claiming the ‘lower’ teams in the Premier League are only interested in defending.
“The music is a massive thing. When we first got into the Champions League, it’s one of the things that most of the lads were looking forward to, hearing it in the stadium.
“It’s little things like that which make it special.”
“When you play in the Premier League, say you’re playing against a lower-end team, they set up to defend all the time, they set up to block you off. But when you play in the Champions League, all the other teams are used to winning every week, so it’s more of an open game, it’s more attacking, end-to-end,” Bale adds.
“No one’s used to defending, everyone’s used to attacking and trying to win games, so it’s just all against all.”
Interesting stuff, Gareth. As the Mirror points out, the Welshman has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer, so it begs the question why the 23-year-old felt the need to fuel the fire by once again airing his desire to try his luck in La Liga.
With Spurs missing out on a top four finish last season, you also have to wonder if it was wise to make such a fuss about missing the Champions League? He must have known how the media were going to react, particularly when ‘transfer fever’ is in full swing with the summer window opening yesterday.
Tottenham remain adamant that Bale won’t be sold this summer but skeptics may suggest that with interviews such as this, the attacker is doing his best to keep his name linked with the likes of Real Madrid. No doubt his agent has something to do with it all but Bale should be clever enough to realise how these comments are going to be taken by the media, and by Spurs fans.
