Chelsea Confident Over £30m Rooney But Deal Delayed Until Late August
Chelsea are confident of signing Wayne Rooney from Manchester United for £30m but expect the deal to be delayed until the final days of the transfer window.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on Wayne Rooney’s proposed move to Chelsea.
Chelsea are confident of landing Wayne Rooney for £30m but expect the deal to be delayed until the final days of the transfer window because of the Blues clash with Manchester United on August 26th, according to the Mirror.
After seeing an opening £20m bid rejected last week reports over the weekend suggested Chelsea were ready to up their offer to £40m in a bid to force United into a sale. However, the Mirror claim Roman Abramovich will sanction a new offer of just £24m this week with the view of eventually agreeing a deal worth in the region of £30m for the unsettled forward.
The newspaper suggests the Blues are confident it’s only a matter of time until Rooney moves to Stamford Bridge but are resigned to have to wait until the final few days of the transfer window because of their clash with United at Old Trafford on August 26th.
The thinking is that new boss David Moyes will refuse to sanction any move before that date as he wont want his first home game in charge to be overshadowed by the return of Rooney to Old Trafford, and they will also not want their former player to come back and haunt them so soon after leaving.
The report claims Chelsea feel the champions have no option but to sell the 27-year-old after he went public over his disillusionment at the club and they are prepared to wait to get their man.
