Chelsea Confirm Signing Of Highly-Rated Chilean Starlet
Chelsea have announced on their official website they have completed the signing of highly-rated Chilean defender Cristian Cuevas on a long-term contract.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Cristian Cuevas.
Chelsea have announced on their official website they have completed the signing of highly-rated Chilean starlet Cristian Cuevas on a long-term contract.
The Blues were linked with a move for the 18-year-old back in January but it seems they have waited until the summer to finalise the deal, with the club confirming on Chelseafc.com that Cuevas has joined from Chilean club O’Higgins after signing a contract until 2018. A statement read:
“Chelsea Football Club has completed the signing of Cristian Cuevas from Chilean club O’Higgins.
The 18-year-old has signed a contract until 2018.”
Cuevas came through the youth ranks at O’Higgins before breaking into the first team in May 2011 and has gone on to play regularly in the starting eleven in the Chilean top flight. He also starred at this summers FIFA Under-20 World Championships where he played in four of Chile’s five games before crashing out at the quarter final’s at the hands of Ghana.
Predominantly a left back, Cuevas is also capable of operating as a left winger and has moved to Stamford Bridge as one for the future with Jose Mourinho not expecting him to be challenging for the first team for some time yet. But he becomes the clubs fourth signing, following Andre Schurrle, Marco van Ginkel and Mark Schwarzer in making the move to west London this summer.
