Suarez To Inform Liverpool He Wants Arsenal Talks
Luis Suarez’s transfer saga continues today with the BBC claiming that the striker wants to hold talks with Arsenal after Liverpool dismissed their £40m bid.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, the latest on Arsenal’s pursuit of Luis Suarez.
The Luis Suarez transfer saga continues today with the BBC claiming that the striker wants to hold talks with Arsenal after Liverpool dismissed the north Londers £40m plus £1 bid.
The £40,000,001 figure is designed to trigger a clause in the forward’s contract with the Reds and although it doesn’t activate a buy-out clause, it does force Liverpool to inform Suarez of the offer.
The Gunners have already seen two bids rejected by Liverpool over the past two weeks but BBC journalist David Ornstein claims the Uruguayan hitman is now ready to inform Brendan Rodgers that he wants to discuss a potential move with Arsenal following their latest bid.
Suarez came off the bench to set up Liverpool’s second goal in a 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory on Wednesday and Rodgers confirmed he’d already held private talks with the 26-year-old but insists the player should remember how the fans and club have stuck by him during some difficult times and reiterated that he’s still very much a Liverpool player.
“The only talks there have been are between Luis and myself.
“There is no doubt that the market nowadays for top players is very small so Luis will always be linked with top clubs.
“The support he has received from the supporters and people of Liverpool has been unrivalled despite the fact he has missed a lot of games for various reasons.
“They have stood by him like a son and looked after him. Whatever happens in the coming weeks I am sure that will be something in his mind. It’s not something you can ever forget.
“He’s surrounded by speculation but he’s here and working with the group. He was a bit tired as he only flew in on Sunday and then trained a double session on Monday after being off for three weeks. He played 20-odd minutes and it was good to see him out there.
“He’s very much a Liverpool player and the coming weeks we need to get him up to speed to ensure he’s fit and raring to go for the beginning of the season.” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo
Suarez scored 30 goals last season with the Reds but will miss the first 6 Premier League fixtures due to his 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic last season. This transfer saga remains unresolved and it seems a stay at Anfield could still on the cards, despite the Uruguayan wanting to leave in search of Champions League football, but the exact wording of the players contract may be called into question if Liverpool don’t allow him to talk with Arsenal.
