Man Utd have rejected an improved bid of £30m from Chelsea for Wayne Rooney but the striker is ready to try and force the move by handing in a transfer request.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea have failed with a second bid for Wayne Rooney.
Man Utd have rejected an improved bid of £30m from Chelsea for Wayne Rooney but the striker is ready to try and force the move by handing in a transfer request., according to Sky Sports News.
Rooney’s future has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after former boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he had asked to leave the club before the final game of last season, and the striker was left “angry and confused” by David Moyes’ comments that suggested he was now playing second fiddle to Robin van Persie.
The unrest led to interest from Chelsea with Jose Mourinho confirming the former Everton man was his only summer transfer target and the Blues had an opening bid of £23m plus £2.5m in add ons rejected last month.
Speculation of a move to west London has continued in recent weeks and Sky Sports are reporting today that Chelsea have now had a second improved bid worth £30m turned down by United.
“A bid in the region of £30m has been made and it is our information that bid has been rejected,” Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth said.
“The question now is whether Chelsea will go back with a third bid. It looks like Chelsea want Wayne Rooney and it looks like they want him quite badly.”
However, Sky Sports also suggest that Rooney is ready to try and force the move by handing in a transfer request but is expected to be on board a flight to Sweden on Monday afternoon as United prepare to take on AIK Stockholm on Tuesday.
With less than a month left until the transfer window closes, time is slowly running out for Chelsea to pull off this major coup, but it remains to be seen whether United will be prepared to hang on to an unhappy player with less than two years left on his contract if he does submit a written transfer request.
