Rooney Facing Backlash From United Squad After Telling Moyes He Wants Chelsea Move
Wayne Rooney is facing a backlash from Man Utd team-mates after telling boss David Moyes he wants to move to Chelsea during a face-to-face meeting on Monday.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Wayne Rooney is facing a backlash from the United squad.
Wayne Rooney is facing a backlash from disgruntled Manchester United team-mates after once again telling boss David Moyes he wants to move to Chelsea during a face-to-face meeting on Monday, according to the Mirror.
Rooney has made clear his desire to leave after former boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he had asked for a transfer before the final game of last season, and the striker was left “angry and confused” by David Moyes’ comments that suggested he was now playing second fiddle to Robin van Persie.
The report claims the 27-year-old held talks with Moyes on Monday morning where he once again reiterated his desire to leave for Chelsea and demanded to know what the club would sell him for, with the meeting taking place just hours after United had reportedly rejected a second bid from the Blues believed to be worth £30m.
Sky Sports News reported yesterday that Rooney was now considering handing in a transfer request to try and force through the move and he pulled out of United’s trip to Stockholm to face AIK just hours before the flight was due to depart on Monday afternoon with an apparent minor shoulder injury.
It seems the strikers behavior is now starting to grate on some of the more senior members of the United squad. The Mirror suggest that tensions are running high within the Old Trafford dressing room with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra expressing their anger at the way Rooney is conducting himself and the trio are understood to have agreed that it was best if the striker didn’t fly with the squad to play in Tuesday’s friendly.
United remain adamant they won’t sell to a direct title rival and are making it as difficult as possible for Chelsea to prise him away from Manchester, but the newspaper claims that Rooney’s camp have made it clear to the champions that his relationship with the club is beyond repair and he will do what it takes to seal a move this summer.
