Man Utd Make Move For £30m David Luiz – Swap Deal With Wayne Rooney On The Cards?
Manchester United have been secretly trying to buy David Luiz from Chelsea in a £30m deal over the past few weeks. Could we see a swap deal involving Rooney?
As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man Utd make a shock move for David Luiz.
An interesting piece of transfer news for you today with the Mirror reporting that Manchester United have been secretly trying to buy David Luiz from Chelsea in a £30m deal over the past few weeks.
The afro-haired Brazilian has become a real fan-favourite since joining the club from Benfica in 2011 but speculation this summer has suggested he could be surplus to requirements at Chelsea following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, with the new Blues boss believed to have doubts over the 25-year-old’s defensive capabilities.
The Mirror are now claiming today that Manchester United have made several approaches for the centre-back this summer with the champions understood to be willing to pay £30m to take him to Old Trafford.
If true, it’s something of a surprise considering United already have a number of centre-back options including Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, so you’d have to question whether they even need another defender.
However, the newspaper suggests that David Moyes is concerned over the long-term fitness of Ferdinand and Vidic and made Luiz a priority signing some weeks ago, with lots of work being done behind the scenes on trying to lure him to Manchester.
Chelsea have always maintained that the Brazilian would not be sold this summer, but United have held the same stance with Rooney, so perhaps we could see a sensational swap deal involving the two?
If United want Luiz and Chelsea want Rooney, it might make sense as it’s unlikely one club will sell to the other without demanding their target in exchange.
Personally, I feel any deals between Chelsea and United are extremely unlikely but you just never know. We’ve got just six days left until the window closes, it’s gearing up to be an interesting few days.
