Chelsea Transfer News: Jose Wants Dutch Playmaker | Serbian Keen On Blues Return
Chelsea transfer news: The Blues are linked with Dutch play-maker Wesley Sneijder and Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic would be keen on a return to the club.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with Wesley Sneijder and Nemanja Matic.
Jose Wants Sneijder
First up and the Metro are carrying quotes from Holland coach Louis van Gaal who claims that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to sign play-maker Wesley Sneijder in January.
Sneijder joined Galatasaray last January in an £8.4m deal but the report suggests he’s ready to quit the Turkish outfit this winter in a bid to rejuvenate his flagging international career, and Dutch boss van Gaal claims Mourinho is keen on taking him to Stamford Bridge.
‘I know Chelsea and Jose Mourinho want Sneijder in the winter market,’
‘In my opinion, if possible Sneijder should leave Galatasaray and join Chelsea.
‘Playing under Mourinho again would improve his performances and help him regain his form for the national team.’ van Gaal is quoted as saying by the Metro.
Sneijder admitted earlier this year that he’d relish the chance to link up with the Portuguese coach again having enjoyed a hugely successful period together at Inter Milan in 2010, and it seems he might get the chance when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Whether Gala will be prepared to sell is another question, but they may be tempted if they get a reasonable offer as the 29-year-old has failed to replicate his previous form in Turkey.
Matic keen on Chelsea return
Next up and the Metro are also carrying quotes from Serbian midfielder Namanja Matic who has admitted he would find it difficult to turn down a return to Chelsea to play under Jose Mourinho.
Matic left Chelsea to join Benfica in 2011 after a difficult period in west London that saw him make just three Premier League appearances. The 25-year-old has since rediscovered his best form in Portugal and reports claim Chelsea are lining up a bid to bring him back to Stamford Bridge this January.
While Matic has suggested he would prefer to remain with Benfica for another year, he admitted he would find it difficult to resist the chance to work under Mourinho and prove himself in the Premier League.
‘I would probably like to stay another year with Benfica, but if somebody like Mourinho wanted to bring me back to London, it would be difficult to turn down,’
‘It would be a great chance to prove that I can play in the Premier League.’ Matic is quoted as saying by the Metro.
The report suggests that Real Madrid may also be interested in the midfielder with Benfica valuing him at around £15m.
