Chelsea hope to beat a host of European clubs to the signing of highly-rated winger Julian Brandt – who is set to leave Wolfsburg when his contract expires this summer, according to Sky Sports News.
The 17-year-old is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Germany after impressing in the Wolfsburg youth ranks but his future has been cast into doubt after rejecting a new long-term contract at the Volkswagen Arena.
Sky Sports claim Brandt is attracting interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich but Chelsea are hopeful of beating the Bundesliga giants to the youngsters signature and are ready to step up in their interest in order to win the race for the exciting winger.
The Blues have been boosted with the news that Brandt will move clubs this summer, with a Wolfsburg spokesman confirming the player has rejected their offer of a new contract and he will now leave the club at the end of the season.
“Julian Brandt has turned down the offer to sign a new contract with VfL Wolfsburg,”
“As he is out of contract at the end of the campaign, Julian Brandt will therefore depart from VfL Wolfsburg.” A Wofsburg spokesperson is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Chelsea could now hold talks with the youngster in January and potentially sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of a free transfer move in June – although Wolfsburg would be due compensation for any deal.
