Chelsea Legend Tempted To Quit Stamford Bridge?
Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has identified a Chelsea defender as one of his key targets. Find out who the Italian wants to sign here.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, could John Terry quit Chelsea for Galatasaray?
Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini wants to sign Chelsea skipper John Terry and lure him to Turkey on a free transfer, according to the Daily Mail.
Terry is in the final year of his current Chelsea contract and is yet to agree terms over an extension, leading to speculation he could be set to end his 18-year association with the club.
The Mail claim that his contract stand-off has alerted former City boss, and now head coach at Galatasaray, Mancini who is keen to bring in a new centre-back with the Italian believed to have Terry down on his list of targets.
The newspaper suggests that Mancini has been promised funds to strengthen his squad with by the Gala hierarchy and they are keen to continue their ambitious recruitment drive that’s seen them sign the likes of Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder in recent years.
Terry remains an important first team player under Jose Mourinho but the Blues are expected to stick with their policy of only offering one-year extensions to players over the age of 30.
The idea of the 32-year-old quitting Stamford Bridge for Turkey appears unlikely on the face of it, but the report claims he will be offered a lucrative long-term contract by Galatasaray to try and lure him away from west London.
Terry would also have the chance to link-up with former team-mate Drogba again and play regularly in the Champions League, as Gala’s two main rivals – Besiktas and Fenerbache – have been banned by UEFA for two years for match fixing.
However, despite this it’s still difficult to imagine Terry leaving Chelsea, and Mourinho, if he’s offered a new deal and the defender may hope that this interest in his services may force the Blues into opening talks of an extension sooner than expected.
