Chelsea Plotting €71m Bid For Unsettled Goal Machine
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to spend €71m (£60m) of Roman Abramovich’s money on an unsettled goal machine. Find out who the Portuguese coach is after.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with Radamel Falcao.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is lining-up a €71m (£60m) move for Radamel Falcao after it emerged the striker is already unsettled at Monaco, according to the Daily Mail.
The Colombian hitman only made the move to Monaco from Atletico Madrid in the summer and has continued his excellent form in front of goal, scoring 12 goals in 16 appearances so far.
However, the Mail claim that the 27-year-old has failed to settle in the south of France and is not only unhappy with the standard of football in Ligue 1, but is also believed to be (understandably) not keen on the proposed 75% tax rate that the French government are trying to force French clubs to pay on their players’ salaries. Monaco are currently exempt from French tax law meaning players like Falcao pay NO tax, so this rule change will certainly hit him in the pocket!
It appears Jose Mourinho is keen to take advantage of the strikers discontent and the report suggests he’s ready to pay €71m (£60m) to lure him to Stamford Bridge in January.
Mourinho watched the player in person last Friday as he scored against Belgium, and after the game Falcao admitted he hoped he had made a good impression on the Chelsea boss:
“He [Mourinho] came here to see good football played by good teams, a good spectacle.
“I don’t know if he was impressed by what he saw – I hope I made a good impression on him.
“The Premier League is one of the most important leagues in the world but I’m playing well and enjoying Monaco at the moment.” Falcao is quoted as saying by the Express.
The Blues were strongly linked with a move for the striker in the summer and it seems they are ready to renew their interest with Mourinho looking to add to his strike-force for the second half of the season.
His current crop of forwards have scored just 3 league goals between them so far this campaign so a player as prolific as Falcao would certainly add a much-needed goal threat to the west Londoners, plus he’s eligible to play in the Champions League making him an even more appealing target.
However, the Blues are unlikely to have a clear run at Falcao’s signature with the newspaper claiming that Real Madrid are ready to match Chelsea’s offer this winter, so a bidding war could ensue.
