Chelsea Linked With Tough-Tackling Midfielder But Man City Also Keen
Chelsea are on red alert to the potential availability of a tough tackling French international midfielder but could face stiff competition from Manchester City
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea and Man City are linked with Blaise Matuidi.
Chelsea are on red alert to the potential availability of Paris Saint German midfielder Blaise Matuidi but could face stiff competition from Manchester City, according to the Mirror.
The tough-tackling French international joined PSG from Saint Etienne in 2011 and has gone on to become a key member of Laurent Blanc’s first team, making 16 appearances so far this season.
However, the 26-year-old’s future at the Parc des Princes is in serious doubt as he has just 6 months left to run on his current contract and talks over an extension have so far proved unsuccessful.
The contract stalemate has led to speculation Matuidi could be on the move and the Mirror claim that Chelsea and Manchester City are interested and bringing him to England and will be able to discuss a free transfer summer move as of January 1st.
The player has admitted his desire is to remain with the French champions but with no new deal is sight, he also refused to rule out a move away from the club:
“I am really at ease at PSG. My first wish would be to stay. But you can wish for something and sometimes it doesn’t happen.
“The club has a special place in my heart, but anything can happen in a career.” Matuidi is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Matuidi has been excellent for PSG this season and if he fails to sign a new contract over the coming weeks, I’m sure it won’t be just Chelsea and City who show interest in signing him this winter.
The long-running court battle between the French government and the French football association over proposed changes in tax laws could be the reason for the delay in him signing a new deal, as players in Ligue 1 could soon have to pay 75% tax which is likely to see many look for moves elsewhere.
