Chelsea & Man Utd Set For January Battle Over £25m-Rated Spaniard
Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to battle it out for the signature of a highly-rated Spanish left-back when the transfer window opens this January.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea and Manchester United are linked with Alberto Moreno.
Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to battle it out for the signature of highly-rated Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno this January, according to the Daily Mail.
The 21-year-old has been impressing at Sevilla this season and has recently broken in the senior Spanish national team set-up, making his debut last month.
His form appears to have caught the eye of teams here in England with the Mail claiming that both Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on luring him to the Premier League when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Ashley Cole has seemingly lost his place in the Blues first team with right-back Cesar Azpilicueta being preferred to the England ace in recent weeks. The newspaper suggests that Jose Mourinho has identified Moreno as Cole’s long-term successor at Stamford Bridge and sent European scout Mick Doherty to watch the youngster this month.
However, Mourinho is going to face stiff competition for the players services with the report stating that David Moyes has also sent scouts to run the rule over him this season and is weighing-up a bid of his own as he looks for a long-term successor for Patrice Evra – who is yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.
United were heavily linked with both Leighton Baines and Fabio Coentrao in the summer but it appears Moyes is now moving on to other targets after finding it difficult to do a deal for his first choice duo.
Moreno has added appeal as he would be eligible to play in the Champions League during the second half of the season, but Chelsea and United will have to dig deep if they want to sign him as he’s believed to have a £25m buy-out clause in his contract and Sevilla aren’t likely to sell for much less.
