Agent Confirms Chelsea Talks Over £15m-Rated Colombian, But Will United Gazump Deal?
The agent of a Colombian midfielder has confirmed that Chelsea have held official talks over a potential January move but Manchester United are also keen.
With the January transfer window just around the corner, managers will be working hard to identify potential new signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Chelsea are in talks to sign Fredy Guarin.
The agent of Fredy Guarin has confirmed Chelsea are in talks with Inter Milan about a potential January move for the £15m-rated Colombian midfielder, according to the Mirror.
Guarin has excelled in the Inter midfield over the last 18 months and it seems his impressive form has attracted interest from a number of clubs here in the Premier League.
The Metro claimed earlier this week that Chelsea and Manchester United were showing serious signs of interest ahead of the January transfer window, while Liverpool and Tottenham were also said to be keeping an eye on things.
However, it appears Chelsea are now heading the queue for the players signature after his agent, Marcelo Ferreyra, confirmed that official talks with Inter have already taken place in London where the Blues made their interest in Guarin formal, and it is now up to the two clubs to agree a deal.
“We have already been to London with Inter and met with Chelsea directors to make their interest formal.
“If both clubs reach an agreement, a transfer is an option, but Fredy is happy at Inter as well if they don’t agree terms.
“Fredy feels important under Walter Mazzarri. The upcoming World Cup also plays a role. We will also meet with the Inter owner to see what the project looks like here.” Ferreyra is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has remained coy over his January plans but it appears he sees midfield as an area of concern and Guarin’s powerful box-to-box style could see him viewed as a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard.
The Colombian international is also appealing due to the fact he wont be cup-tied during the second half of the season after Inter failed to qualify for any form of European football this season.
However, while the west Londoners appear to be in pole position for Guarin’s signature, reports earlier this week suggested that Man Utd aren’t ready to give up without a fight and David Moyes has sent a delegation out to Italy to try and thrash out a deal.
