Man Utd Hold Talks With Juan Mata’s Agent Ahead Of Proposed £27m Bid
Manchester United have held talks with the agents of Juan Mata about a potential switch to Old Trafford and could test Chelsea’s resolve with a £27m bid.
With the January transfer window now open for business clubs will be working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, more on the future of Juan Mata.
Some interesting reports doing the rounds this morning with the Daily Star claiming that Manchester United have held talks with the agents of Juan Mata about a potential switch to Old Trafford and could test Chelsea’s resolve with a £27m bid.
Mata has surprisingly fallen out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho this season with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Andre Schurrle all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, while the Portuguese coach has also questioned the attackers work-rate at times.
The 25-year-old’s lack of regular action has seen him linked with a move away from west London and understandably, there is likely to be no shortage of takers if Mata does become available.
One club who have been credited with an interest in Manchester United and the Daily Star claim that the champions have not given up hope of pulling of a major coup by taking Mata to Old Trafford – despite Chelsea insisting they have no interest in selling to a domestic rival.
The newspaper suggests that United chiefs have already held talks with the players representatives and David Moyes could now tempt Chelsea’s resolve with a £27m bid.
I have no idea what United are doing speaking to Mata’s agents without the permission of Chelsea, but the paper seems to think this is the case, while they also state that Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have also been in touch with the players people about a move back to Spain.
Mata’s situation is perplexing, particularly when you consider he was voted as Chelsea’s player of the year for the previous two seasons and has been excellent since his move from Valencia in 2011. Mourinho is a tough coach who demands 100% effort and discipline from his players, and it seems he isn’t convinced Mata can do a job for the team, despite his obvious attacking abilities.
Mata isn’t going to be happy sitting on the bench for the second half of the season with the World Cup coming up, so he’d be well within his rights to demand a move – whether on loan or a permanent deal.
But would they ever agree to sell to United? In my opinion, NO. It would make little sense unless they received an offer too good to turn down – which £27m certainly isn’t for a player of Mata’s quality – or they got someone in exchange – such as Wayne Rooney. Now that would be some swap deal, wouldn’t it?!
