With the January transfer window now open for business clubs will be working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Arsene Wenger responds to reports of interest in Mirko Vucinic.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has responded to reports suggesting he has met with the agent of Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic to discuss a potential move to the Emirates.
Vucinic is the latest striker to be linked with a move to the Gunners this month with the Mirror claiming that the 30-year-old’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, met with Wenger last week to negotiate a switch to north London.
The newspaper suggests that Wenger is wanting to sign the Montenegrin international on loan until the end of the season but the move could be in doubt with Juventus preferring a permanent deal and are demanding £10m for his signature.
The Arsenal boss was quizzed about his reported interest in Vucinic following our 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, and he told Arsenal.com that while he’s on the look-out for reinforcements, he played down the reports linking him with the Juve hitman.
He told the clubs official website:
on rumours of a deal for Vucinic…
We are looking at potential possibilities for us to get someone in, but we are not especially in for Vucinic.
on rumours of a meeting with his agent…
Some people have visual capacities that I don’t have!
on transfer plans…
We are not on any special case. I would love to announce something that would excite you and me, but i don’t have the possibility to do it.
I think it’s clear we’re looking to bring in a front-man to offer support to Olivier Giroud during the second half of the season and it seems the boss would rather do a short-term deal as his prime targets are unlikely to be available mid-season.
Vucinic would be a useful addition as he’s got plenty of experience at the top level, but it remains to be seen whether we’ll be able to persuade Juventus to let him leave on loan rather than a permanent basis.

I certainly wouldn’t pay £10m for a 30-year-old who’s unlikely to be anything other than a back-up striker and I’d rather we saved that money for the summer when hopefully we can bring in a world class hitman, so fingers crossed we can get a short-term deal agreed.
