Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Bracing Themselves For Mammoth €97m Bid
Paris Saint Germain will test Chelsea’s resolve to keep hold of star attacker Eden Hazard by submitting a mammoth €97m (£80m) bid at the end of the season.
With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, there is some interesting news regarding Eden Hazard.
Paris Saint Germain will test Chelsea’s resolve to keep hold of attacker Eden Hazard by submitting a mammoth €97m (£80m) bid at the end of the season, according to the Metro.
Hazard has been in excellent form for Chelsea this season with his 11 goals helping the club keep pace with Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table as well as qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
It appears his impressive displays have caught the eye of big-spending PSG with the Metro citing reports coming out of France that claim Laurent Blanc has made Hazard his No.1 summer transfer target and is prepared to use the clubs vast wealth to try and persuade Chelsea to cash-in on the 23-year-old.
The newspaper suggests that the Ligue 1 champions are so desperate to get their hands on the young Belgian international that they will try and prize him out of Stamford Bridge with a whopping €97m (£80m) offer at the end of the season.
However, it seems PSG may have their work cut out in trying to persuade Hazard to swap London for Paris after the attacker committed his future to Stamford Bridge yesterday amid rumours the Ligue 1 outfit may even be considering a move this month. He said:
‘In every transfer window for the last four years people have been saying I’m going here or there.
‘It was the same when I was at Lille. It’s often Paris, because Paris have money, Paris are a big club.
‘But my choice is Chelsea, I play all the time, and I like it here.
‘There’s no chance of seeing me leave in this transfer window. Even in the summer.
‘I’ve no desire to leave. I think this is the best place for me to progress.’ [source: Daily Mail]
It remains to be seen how Chelsea would react if PSG do end up tabling a €97m (£80m) bid but it would certainly be difficult for the west Londoners to turn down, while despite the players protestations, he too may find it hard to turn down his boyhood club if they come calling.
Hazard has become an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s first team plans this season and he’s clearly a huge fan of the former Lille man, but the decision to cash-in may be taken away from the Portuguese coach with the Blues hierarchy unlikely to be able to resist bagging a profit of nearly £50m on a player they only signed 18 months ago.
