Chelsea + Man Utd Ready To Swoop For Unsettled £25m Playmaker
Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to offer Marek Hamsik the chance to resurrect his career in the Premier League if he opts to leave Napoli this summer
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Marek Hamsik is linked with a move to England.
Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to offer Marek Hamsik the chance to resurrect his career in the Premier League if he opts to leave Napoli this summer, according to the Express.
The Slovakian international has been a key player for Napoli since joining from Brescia in 2007, rarely missing a game throughout his first six seasons at the club. However, the 26-year-old has suddenly found himself out-of-favour under new boss Rafa Benitez this season and has been restricted to just 11 starts in the league.
It seems Hamsik could now seek a fresh challenge at the end of the season if Benitez remains in charge, with the Express claiming that the attacking midfielder has grown tired of continually being overlooked by the Spaniard and Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is understood to be ready to cash-in if a suitable offer arrives.
Former Napoli boss Gianni Di Marzio has backed up this claim by insisting that Hamsik will be sold this summer if Benitez stays at the club.
“Should Benitez remain [Hamsik] will be the first to be sold in the summer.” Di Marzio is quoted as saying by the Express.
The newspaper suggests that Chelsea and Manchester United are ready and waiting to offer Hamsik a fresh start in England, but the duo will have to stump up around £25million to secure his services.
A move to Chelsea would be something of a surprise when you consider the amount of options Jose Mourinho already has in the attacking midfield positions, as he’d be up against the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle, Willian and Mohamed Salah for a starting spot at Stamford Bridge.
United on the other hand have endured a disappointing campaign that’s likely to see them not only end up trophy-less, but also without Champions League football next year, so David Moyes is likely to rebuild his squad this summer and Hamsik would be an exciting addition.
Therefore, if Hamsik isn’t worried about the lack of Champions League football, his best option could be a switch to Old Trafford if he does leave Napoli this summer and want to try his luck here in England.
