Man Utd ‘Confident’ Of Beating Chelsea To £30m Deal
Man Utd are confident they can persuade Luke Shaw to turn his back on a move to boyhood club Chelsea in favour of a £30m switch to Old Trafford this summer
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are confident they’ll beat Chelsea to Luke Shaw.
Manchester United are confident they can persuade Luke Shaw to turn his back on a move to boyhood club Chelsea in favour of a £30m switch to Old Trafford this summer, according to the Telegraph.
Shaw has emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe after enjoying a superb season with Southampton that’s seen him make a late push for a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summers World Cup.
His adventurous displays down the left flank have also caught the attention of some of the Premier League’s ‘big boys’ with Chelsea and Manchester United strongly linked with the 18-year-old over the past few months.
However, the Telegraph claim that United are confident they can persuade Shaw to reject a £30m move to Chelsea – who he supported as a child – in favour of a switch to Old Trafford as the player is understood to have concerns about getting regular first team football.
Jose Mourinho has shown a huge amount of faith in Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back this season while Ashley Cole is also expected to sign a new one-year contract extension, and although the Blues are keen on signing Shaw this summer, the youngster would face stiff competition if he were to join the West Londoners.
That wouldn’t be the case at United as Patrice Evra is expected to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer and the newspaper suggests that David Moyes feels Shaw is capable of filling the void straight away, and United chiefs will look to tie up the deal before the World Cup begins in mid-June.
Southampton are understandably desperate to hang on to their star men but they will find it increasingly difficult to keep hold of Shaw, particularly if formal bids in the region of £30m come in from the likes of Chelsea and United.
The former champions are expected to undergo a major overhaul this summer after a disappointing season and Shaw is seemingly a key target, and it would be something of a major coup if Moyes was able to convince the teenager to opt for United over his boyhood club Chelsea.
