Man Utd Boost As Chelsea Set To Pull Out Of Race For £30m Starlet
Chelsea are ready to pull out of the race to sign Southampton’s Luke Shaw clearing the way for the left-back to make a £30m switch to Manchester United.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea clear the way for Man Utd to sign £30m ace.
Chelsea are ready to pull out of the race to sign Southampton’s Luke Shaw clearing the way for the left-back to make a £30m switch to Manchester United, according to the Mirror.
Shaw is considered as one of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe after an excellent season with Southampton that’s seen him throw his hat into the ring for a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summers World Cup.
The 18-year-old’s form has also drawn admirers from the upper echelons of the Premier League with Chelsea and Manchester United understood to be have been tracking the youngster for several months ahead of a potential summer move.
The Telegraph reported earlier this week that United were confident they could persuade Shaw to pick Old Trafford over Stamford Bridge as they could offer him guaranteed first team football and now their chances appear to have been boosted further with the Blues believed to be ready to pull out of the race altogether.
The Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho is not prepared to spend such a large proportion of his summer transfer budget on a left-back and with a world class striker his priority, the Portuguese coach will instead recall on-loan defender Patrick Van Aanholt to act as cover for Cesar Azpilicueta next season, with Ashley Cole expected to leave when his contract expires in June.
Van Aanholt is currently impressing on-loan at Vitesse Arnhem and the newspaper suggests he will be offered a new contract in the summer and the chance to be part of the first team squad.
Obviously things could change, but as it stands it looks like Man Utd are in the driving seat for Shaw’s signature. David Moyes is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of breaking back in to the top four after a disappointing season.
With Patrice Evra looking likely to leave when his contract expires this summer, a new left back is going to be a priority for the Scot and it would be a major coup if he could manage to land Shaw. The teenager has been one of the players of the season and was just confirmed as a nominee for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, and he’d be capable of being United’s left-back for the next decade.
