Van Gaal Hopes To Seal Deal By Friday As Man Utd Get Set To Table Formal €40m Bid
Man Utd are set to table a formal €40m bid for Fiorentina midfielder Juan Cuadrado with the former champions hopeful of wrapping up the deal before this weekend
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Manchester United hope to seal a deal for Juan Cuadrado by the weekend.
Manchester United are set to table a formal €40m bid for Fiorentina midfielder Juan Cuadrado with the former champions hopeful of wrapping up the deal before the weekend, according to reports.
United have been strongly linked with a move for the Colombian international in recent months and although Fiorentina are determined to try and hang on to the versatile attacker, it seems the Red Devils are finally ready to make their move.
The Express claim that United are set to make a formal €40m (£32m) offer and although that falls just short of the 26-year-old’s €45m buy-out clause, it’s a figure the Italians are unlikely to be able to resist.
The newspaper suggests that Louis van Gaal is hopeful a deal can be wrapped up in time for Cuadrado to make his debut against Sunderland this weekend. If that’s to be the case, United are going to have to get a move on as the transfer would have to be registered with the FA by Friday lunchtime at the latest in order for the player to be eligible on Sunday.
United have been following Cuadrado for some time but it seems that Saturday’s shock loss to Swansea has forced them into action and the Colombian could soon follow Marcos Rojo in moving to Old Trafford, with the Argentinean arriving in the UK on Tuesday night to complete a €20m move from Sporting Lisbon.
If United are also able to push through a deal for Cuadrado in time, van Gaal’s side could have a very different look when they face Sunderland this weekend. Rojo will likely take up the left wing-back role in the absence of Luke Shaw while Cuadrado would be expected to play on the opposite flank in the right wing-back role.

Cuadrado has predominantly played as a right winger for Fiorentina and chipped in with 15 goals last season while he impressed at the World Cup in a more advanced role, but he’s also capable of playing at right-back so he could be the perfect fit in van Gaal’s new 3-5-2 formation.
