Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has posted a photo from his hospital bed along with an emotional message after undergoing ankle surgery that will rule him out for three months.
Wilshere was taken off during the second half of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday evening after suffering yet another ankle injury.
Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier this week that the 22-year-old had suffered ankle ligament damage but was reluctant to put a time-scale on his recovery until he’d been to a see a specialist today.
However, the club have announced on Arsenal.com that following his visit to London today, Wilshere has now undergone successful surgery and will be sidelined for around three months. The statement said:
“Jack Wilshere had successful surgery on his left ankle and will be out for approximately three months.”
“An assessment with a specialist confirmed the need for an operation and the 22-year-old had successful surgery to his ankle in London on Thursday afternoon.”
Wilshere has now shared a photo from his hospital bed on Instagram that shows his smiling with his left ankle in bandages. The England international also posted an emotional message saying he needs to be strong and courageous and won’t let his critics put him down.
Its another huge blow for Jack as he’s only just started to find some consistent form following years of injury hell that saw him sidelined with various ankle problems, so it’s going to be difficult not only on a physical level but also a psychological one for him to deal with this latest set-back.
Let’s hope he makes a quick recovery because with Mikel Arteta also facing some time on the sidelines with a calf injury, we have few options in midfield, so Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini are going to need to stay fit over the next couple of months.
