Mourinho May Sanction Move As Liverpool Make Audacious Swoop For Chelsea Star
Liverpool have made an audacious swoop on Chelsea for long-serving goalkeeper Petr Cech and Jose Mourinho hasn’t ruled out the idea of a short-term loan deal.
With the January transfer window fast approaching managers are formalising their plans to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool have made a shock move for Chelsea’s Petr Cech.
Liverpool have made an audacious swoop on Chelsea for long-serving goalkeeper Petr Cech and Jose Mourinho hasn’t ruled out the idea of a loan deal, according to the Mirror.
The Reds are believed to be on the look-out for a top class keeper to challenge Simon Mignolet – who’s been axed from the first team following some unconvincing displays this season.
The Belgian international has made a number of costly mistakes this campaign and Brendan Rodgers has told him he’ll be on the bench for the foreseeable future after starting Brad Jones during Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.
The Mirror claim that Rodgers has now made an audacious move to try and land Petr Cech on loan until the end of the season and surprisingly, there appears to be a chance that a deal could be agreed between the two clubs.
The Newspaper suggests that with Liverpool currently 19 points adrift of Chelsea in the Premier League and dumped out of the Champions League, Jose Mourinho no longer sees them as a threat, and sending Cech on loan to Anfield could actually help his side’s title bid.
Cech would be unable to play for Liverpool against Chelsea but the Czech international would be able to play against the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, so it could be a shrewd move from Mourinho if Cech helps the Merseysiders take points off their title rivals.
It’s a similar situation to when Mourinho sold Juan Mata to Manchester United last January. Chelsea had already faced United twice when Mata made the move to Old Trafford and many suggested the Portuguese coach only sanctioned the sale mid-season so the attacker could help United – who were out of the title race – take points off their rivals during the second half of the season.

It would certainly be a major coup for Liverpool if they could get a deal agreed for Cech, but I’m sure Mourinho would still prefer to hang on to the player as cover for No.1 Thibaut Courtois as the Blues are still going strong in four competitions, so I’d be surprised if a deal ends up happening.
