Man Utd Team News: Mourinho Confirms 6 Players Will Miss Palace Trip
Jose Mourinho has confirmed six first team squad players will miss Manchester United’s trip to Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Manchester United will be looking to cement themselves in second spot when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a team news and injury update ahead of the game.
The United boss gave the latest on Marouane Fellaini and is hoping the Belgian international will be available again at some point later this month.
Fellaini hasn’t featured since the game against Tottenham on January 31st and has already missed United’s last five games after being forced to undergo minor surgery on a knee problem.
The 30-year-old will once again miss the trip to Palace on Monday but Mourinho is hoping Fellaini will be back in contention for a ‘hypothetical’ Champions League quarter final should they progress past Sevilla.
Elsewhere, Mourinho also confirmed that none of his other injury absentees are ready to return just yet so Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Daley Blind all remain on the sidelines.
The United boss told ManUtd.com:
“He’s still a young player, his injury had a little surgery, but a minor surgery, and he will be back to play again in a couple of weeks,”
“If we proceed in the Champions League beyond Sevilla, I think he will be ready for a hypothetical quarter-final. He will be ready for a hypothetical FA Cup semi-final. He will be ready for the last couple of months of our Premier League fight.”
“No Phil Jones, no Marcos Rojo, no Daley Blind. We don’t have them. So the situation hasn’t changed. The squad is the same.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still working his way back to full fitness from a serious knee injury while Ander Herrera is also on the sidelines with a hamstring problem so it means United will be without six players for the trip to Selhurst Park.
The Red Devils head to the capital sitting second in the table but with Liverpool just two points behind, United need a victory at Palace to guarantee they hold on to second position.
