Liverpool Set to Break Transfer Record this Summer!
The Premier League winners are expected to have a busy summer transfer window with Liverpool ready to break their transfer record.
The Premier League winners are expected to have a busy summer transfer window.
League-winning manager Arne Slot has already expressed his interest in several key players to join the side ahead of the 2025/26 season, and he is acting fast.
Here’s all we know.
Florian Wirtz – Done Deal
According to transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg, Florian Wirtz’s Liverpool medical could occur “in the next days.”
Fans with Liverpool tickets are over the moon.
Recent reports have claimed the Reds saw a third bid turned down for the Bayer Leverkusen star over the weekend, with the German club said to be holding out for a staggering €140 million ($160M/£118M).
That would be a British record transfer fee for the 22-year-old, who appeared to hint last week that he expects his transfer to be completed. Plettenberg certainly shares that view, with the German reporter telling Sky Sports that a deal is inching closer.
“I expect the medical will take place in the next days, as we expect the total agreement between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen within the next one, two, or three days,” he revealed.
“There has been a new offer, a fresh offer from Liverpool in the last two days. The package is almost €150M, with a big package of possible add-ons included.”
Plettenberg added that “some more details have to be clarified” between Liverpool and Leverkusen, but Wirtz is “totally convinced” that the deal will go through.
He also claimed that RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko is expected to join Arsenal this summer. Plettenberg states a “positive feeling” exists between the clubs, but no price agreement has yet been reached.
Sesko had previously been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but that option now looks off the table. Similarly, a move for Liam Delap, who has already signed for Chelsea, also looks off the table.
But one striker who could be up for grabs is Victor Osimhen. Reports over recent days claimed he was bound for the Saudi Pro League, but Fabrizio Romano ended that suggestion on Sunday, reporting that Nigeria’s future remains uncertain.
He wrote on X that Osimhen has “rejected” Al-Hilal’s approach, with the race “now open” to sign the Napoli star.
Galatasaray, where Osimhen played last season, remains a potential destination for a player linked with several Premier League sides. A few seasons ago, Osimhein, the star of Napoli’s league-winning side, had to switch over derogatory remarks from the club about his ethnicity.
Liverpool is among them, with the Reds being mentioned as a possible destination for 26-year-olds in recent months. Fans with Liverpool tickets have had Osimhein on their watch for the longest time, but the deal never made it through.
It is unclear whether he remains the first choice, though. Hugo Ekitike is the striker referenced most frequently in Liverpool transfer round-ups, and given his age, he would align more clearly with Liverpool’s transfer policy.
Other possibilities include Julian Alvarez, Viktor Gyokeres, and Alexander Isak. The latter is considered the best striker on the market, but Newcastle United’s steep asking price could prevent a summer move.
Darwin Nunez to Leave
After years of trying, fans with Liverpool tickets understand it is time to end the Darwin Nunez experiment.
The future of Darwin Nunez at Liverpool remains uncertain, and global events may soon provide clarity.
The forward once again finds himself linked to the Saudi Pro League’s transfer ambitions, but this time, there’s a sense of urgency in the air. Nunez had bought into new head coach Arne Slot’s vision for the 2024/25 season but only managed to net seven goals across all competitions.
This marked a decline from his previous tally of 18 goals in the preceding season and 15 in his debut year in England, both under Jurgen Klopp’s stewardship. Despite his faltering form, Liverpool rejected a January window approach from Saudi Arabia for the Uruguayan’s signature, not wanting to disrupt the team’s Premier League title bid.
Nunez’s most recent start was on March 8 against Southampton, which also saw his latest goal. However, he didn’t have much impact on the title race, and now Liverpool may have to address a familiar enquiry with little time to react.
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool’s No. 9 is one of two players being urgently considered by Al-Hilal, desperate to secure a major signing ahead of the Club World Cup.
Al-Hilal’s attempts so far have been thwarted by rejections from Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen, who netted 37 goals while on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray in the 2024/25 season, has previously been linked with a move to Anfield.
In addition, A Bola reports that Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres has also turned down an offer from Al-Hilal.
The 27-year-old, who has scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances over the past two seasons, has also been rumoured to be on Liverpool’s radar.
Given Gyokeres’ stated preference for a Premier League move this summer, there’s a chance that the transfer carousel could swing in Liverpool’s favour – but time is of the essence.
Al-Hilal is keen to finalize signings before the window shuts on Tuesday to register its recruits for the Club World Cup.
This urgency could work in Liverpool’s favour as it looks to recoup some of the cash spent on bringing Nunez to Anfield from Benfica in 2022.
Nunez, signed by Klopp, was set to replace the outgoing Sadio Mane in the front, pairing up with Mo Salah.
His first season was not quite up to standards, and those with Liverpool tickets gave him a lifeline, assuming he needed time to get acclimatized.
But the situation never got better, and in a team like Liverpool, which wants to play fast-moving football, Nunez found it hard to adopt and deliver.
There were sparks of his potential during some part of his career in a Liverpool jersey, but he failed to be consistent.
The time is up for Nunez.
