Man Utd Hold Talks With Agent Of Arsenal’s No.1 Target Ahead Of Potential €55m Move

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd hold talks with the agent of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema…

Arsenal have received a blow as Manchester United have held talks with the agent of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema about a potential €55m move to Old Trafford this summer, according to reports.

Benzema enjoyed another productive season at Madrid last year that saw him score 22 goals in 46 appearances but those efforts weren’t enough to satisfy the hard-to-please Bernabeu fans – who gave the striker stick at times last season.

With new boss Rafa Benitez believed to be ready to play Cristiano Ronaldo as a central striker and Gareth Bale back playing on the left-wing next season, it could see Benzema out in the cold and reports suggest he could be on the move this summer.

Not for the first time, the French international is being linked with a switch to the Premier League with speculation earlier this week claiming that Arsenal are keen to sign the striker after Arsene Wenger made his compatriot his No.1 transfer target.

However, it looks like the Gunners will now face some stiff competition for Benzema’s signature as the Express claim that Premier League rivals Man Utd have now held formal talks with the striker’s agent.

The newspaper suggests that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward met with Karim Djaziri at the Savoy hotel in London on Wednesday to discuss a deal ahead of a potential €55m (£40m) move.

Louis van Gaal is on the look out for a top class striker after rejecting the chance to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis, while the future’s of Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez are also in doubt, and it appears Benzema is now on the Dutchman’s radar.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I’d personally love to see Benzema plying his trade here in the Premier League as he’s one of the best all-round strikers in the game.

If the Express’s report is accurate, then it looks like United have stolen a march on Arsenal but I wouldn’t discount the North Londoners from the race just yet.

Arsene Wenger could certainly do with a potent goal threat like Benzema up front and with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez supplying the bullets, the former Lyon forward could be the man to fire the Gunners to the title next season, if they can beat United to his signature.
