Arsenal eased into the semi-finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 victory over Wigan. In a relatively sluggish first half, Mexican forward Carlos Vela was guilty of missing a couple of chances, while the Gunners were unlucky not to get a couple of penalties. However, Arsenal eventually took the lead after a Walcott corner was turned into his own net by Wigan defender Alcharaz just 5 minutes before the break. Nicolas Bendtner then doubled the advantage sliding home from close range after a lovely flowing move from Arsenal.
