Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost with Philippe Coutinho set to resume full first team training next week, according to the Express.

Coutinho has been on the sidelines since suffering a hamstring injury during the Reds Capital One Cup semi final first leg victory over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on January 5th.

The Brazilian international was initially expected to be on the sidelines for at least six weeks which would have ruled him out of action until around the middle of February.

However, it looks as though Coutinho is set to return ahead of schedule with the Express claiming he’s due to resume full first team training with the rest of the squad next week.

As long as the playmaker doesn’t suffer any sort of setback once he’s back in training, he could put himself in contention for a place in the squad for next weekend’s Premier League clash with Sunderland.

The news will come as a huge boost to boss Jurgen Klopp as Coutinho has been sorely missed over the past six matches and he’ll provide a real creative edge in the final third as Liverpool head in to a crucial part of the season.

The Merseysiders have a Capital One Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon as well as important Europa League and Premier League games, so a fit and firing Coutinho is going to be vital.

In another boost, Dejan Lovren is set to make his comeback from a hamstring injury during Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round clash against West Ham.
