Transfer News: Chelsea & Man Utd Handed Boost In Pursuit Of Brazilian Star
With the winter transfer window closed, manager’s are now looking ahead towards the summer and planning deals for next season. Today, Chelsea and Manchester United are linked with Marquinhos…
Chelsea and Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos after he admitted he’d love to try his luck in the Premier League one day, according to the Express.
Marquinhos is one of the best young defenders in world football and despite his relatively young age, he’s already got bags of experience having played in the Champions League and at a World Cup for Brazil.
The 21-year-old joined PSG from Serie A outfit Roma in the summer of 2013 and after an encouraging start to life in France, the youngster was expected to go on and become a vital part of the Ligue 1 champions starting eleven.
However, the arrival of David Luiz in 2014 saw the Brazilian international drop down the pecking order as the former Chelsea defender is the preferred partner for Thiago Silva at the back and Marquinhos has found regular first team football hard to come by this season.
Chelsea and Manchester United have long been linked with a move for the young defender and the Express claims that the duo have now been placed on red alert following the players latest comments.
Marquinhos has been quoted in the newspaper as saying that he’s a huge fan of the Premier League, which he believes is the best in the world, and admits that he’d love to try his luck here in England one day, but remained tight-lipped over who his preferred team would be.
“The Premier League is the number one best league in the world,” Marquinhos said.
“It’s a very competitive football. There are not weak teams at all.”
“I just like the league itself but I haven’t got an English side that I follow closely.
“It’d be fantastic to have this opportunity [to play in England] one day, but now I’m focused on PSG.”
A skeptic would say that Marquinhos is issuing a very subtle come-and-get-me-plea to the Premier League tops clubs with these comments and he’d obviously be a superb signing if Chelsea or United could pull it off.
The Blues will need to bring in a long-term replacement for John Terry soon as the skipper is out-of-contract this summer and has so far not been offered an extension, and Marquinhos could fit the bill perfectly.
United are likely to be busy in the transfer market once again this summer after another frustrating season and whoever’s in charge at Old Trafford come the summer would surely be keen on Marquinhos if the defender makes it clear he wants a new challenge.
However, it would no doubt take a huge offer to persuade PSG to cash-in so if the likes of Chelsea or United do move for the Samba Star this summer, they better be prepared to dig deep.
