Arsenal & Liverpool Eye Bargain £16m Gotze Deal After Ancelotti Agrees To Sell

Arsenal are ready to battle-it-out with Liverpool over a £16m deal to sign Mario Gotze this summer after Carlo Ancelotti agreed to sell the playmaker.

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Mario Gotze….

Arsenal are ready to battle-it-out with Liverpool over a bargain £16m deal to sign Mario Gotze this summer after incoming Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti agreed to sell the playmaker, according to German outlet Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Gotze has struggled to establish himself at the Allianz Arena under Pep Guardiola since making a controversial move to Bayern Munich from rivals Borussia Dortmund back in 2013.

The 23-year-old’s season has been hampered by a serious hamstring injury which kept him on the sidelines for around four months but even after returning to fitness in February, Gotze has only completed the full ninety minutes twice and hasn’t started a Champions League game since way back in September.

With Bayern already making moves in the transfer market following the big-money signing of Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches earlier this week, it looks like Gotze is set to fall even further down the pecking order and it appears things aren’t about to change under incoming boss Ancelotti.

According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Italian tactician has already phoned Gotze and made it clear he’s free to find a new club this summer as he doesn’t feature in his first team plans next season.

And it looks as though Gotze could be heading to the Premier League as the Munich-based newspaper says Arsenal and Liverpool have joined Borussia Dortmund and Juventus in showing a keen interest in signing the attacker this summer.

Gotze has just one year remaining on his current contract so Bayern are going to have to sell at a knock-down fee and Süddeutsche Zeitung suggest the German champions will do business at just €20m – which works out at just under £16m.

That would represent an absolute bargain for a player of Gotze’s talent in today’s market and it’s safe to say he’d be a superb signing if either Arsenal or Liverpool could lure him to England.

Liverpool could be considered favourites as Jurgen Klopp knows the player well from their time together at Dortmund and they’ll be able to offer Champions League football if they win the Europa League next week.

Arsenal have already secured their Champions League status for a 20th consecutive season and Arsene Wenger could be eyeing Gotze as a potential new recruit with the likes of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain tipped to leave the Emirates this summer.

Gotze is an extremely versatile player as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield positions while he’s also been deployed as a ‘false 9’ up front at times, so he’d certainly give Wenger or Klopp plenty of options.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it looks increasingly likely that Gotze will move clubs this summer and I’d personally love to see him come to the Premier League, so hope either Arsenal or Liverpool can persuade him to come to England.
