Mourinho Eyes £25m Raid On Chelsea As Incoming Man Utd Boss Plots £200m Spree

Jose Mourinho is eyeing a raid on Chelsea for £25m-rated midfielder Nemanja Matic as the incoming Manchester United manager gets set to splash £200m this summer

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for Nemanja Matic…

Jose Mourinho is eyeing a raid on former club Chelsea for £25m-rated midfielder Nemanja Matic as the incoming Manchester United manager gets set to splash £200m this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Mourinho is odds-on to replace Louis van Gaal after he was sacked as United manager on Monday night with the Express one of several media outlets reporting that the Portuguese coach is close to agreeing terms after meeting with United officials on Tuesday.

Once Mourinho is confirmed as the new boss, he’s expected to be busy in the transfer market overhauling the United squad after a disappointing campaign and the Daily Mail claim he’ll be handed a huge £200m transfer kitty.

I looks like the so-called ‘Special One’ has already lined-up his targets as the newspaper suggests he’s eyeing a £25m raid on former club Chelsea for midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The Serbian international was the first player Mourinho signed when he took over during his second spell at Stamford Bridge in 2014 after bringing the midfielder back to West London from Benfica.

After a superb 2014/15 season that saw Matic forge a reputation as the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League, the 27-year-old endured a poor second season and fell out-of-favour under Guus Hiddink after the Dutchman replaced Mourinho in the Chelsea hot-seat.

It remains to be seen how Matic will figure in Antonio Conte’s plans at Stamford Bridge but it looks like Mourinho is keen to once again be reunited with the powerful midfielder at Manchester United  this summer.

Central midfield is likely to be a priority area for Mourinho as Michael Carrick is out-of-contract next month while Bastian Schweinsteiger has endured a difficult debut season after struggling with a series of injuries.

Matic would certainly add a bit of steal to the middle of the park and obviously Mourinho knows the player well from their time together at Chelsea, but we’ll have to wait and see whether the Blues would be willing to do business with a rival.

The Daily Mail claim Mourinho is also plotting big-money moves for Everton’s John Stones and Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario as he looks to put his own stamp on the team left behind by van Gaal.
