Arsenal In Talks To Secure £15m Deal For South American Defender

The summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Jeison Murillo is linked with Arsenal….

Arsenal are in talks over a potential £15m to sign Inter Milan defender Jeison Murillo as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a centre-back this month, according to a report in the Mirror.

Wenger has already splashed out on Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka while a deal is in place for Japanese attacker Takuma Asano but the boss is also understood to be determined to strengthen our options at the back this summer.

Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claimed last month that we’d identified Inter Milan star Jeison Murillo as a potential target.

It looks like we’ve now stepped-up our interest in the Colombian international as the Mirror are citing reports coming from Sky Italia that suggest Arsenal are in talks with Inter over a potential £15m deal.

The newspaper says that Wenger is hoping to wrap-up the move within the next two weeks in order to have Murillo on board when we fly-out to the United States for our pre-season tour later this month.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but Murillo would be an interesting signing as he’s highly-rated in Italy after enjoying an excellent debut season at the San Siro following his move from Granada last summer.

Ordinarily, the Serie A giants would no doubt like to keep hold of the centre-back but they are under pressure to raise funds to settle a £39m deficit in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, so it looks like they are ready to sacrifice Murillo.

I think Arsenal need to bring in another top class centre-back as I feel we’re still susceptible in that area and if Murillo if the man Wenger ends up going for, then I think we’ll see Calum Chambers head out on loan this summer.
