[Video Goals] Sunderland 1-4 Arsenal: Sanchez & Giroud Fire Gunners Top

By on October 29, 2016

Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score twice as Arsenal moved top of the Premier League table with a 4-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.

We started brightly and took a deserved lead when Alexis Sanchez crashed home a header from a superb Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cross but Sunderland were gifted a lifeline when Petr Cech gave away a penalty midway through the second half. Jermaine Defoe made it 1-1 from the spot.

However, Giroud came off the bench and made an instant impact as he volleyed home a Kieran Gibbs cross in the 71st minute to make it 2-1 before flicking home a header minutes later for 3-1.

The three points were then secured when Sanchez tapped home from close range to get his second of the game after Gibbs had crashed his shot off the post.

The win sees us open up a three-point advantage over Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of their games this afternoon.
