Arsenal and Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he admitted he could leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Aubameyang has developed in to one of the best strikers in world football since joining Dortmund from Saint-Etienne in 2013 having scored 100 goals and provided a further 32 assists in his 165 appearances so far.

The 27-year-old has has been in red-hot form so far this campaign, scoring 20 goals in just 22 games, and he’s attracted interest from a whole host of top clubs with La Liga giants Real Madrid in particular strongly linked in recent months.

However, the Mirror claim that Arsenal and Manchester United are also keeping a close eye on Aubameyang’s situation with the duo understood to be keen to lure the striker to the Premier League.

The duo have now been boosted in their pursuit after the Gabon international further intensified the speculation surrounding his future by admitting he could be set to leave Dortmund at the end of the current season.

Several high-profile names have joined Bayern Munich from Dortmund in recent years, including Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels, but in a further boost to Arsenal and United Aubameyang has insisted he won’t be following them to the Allianz Arena.

The striker is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“It is possible that in June a club comes, which finds a solution with Dortmund, and I go,”

“No one can foresee the future. Now I’m in Dortmund and I love it here. But I can not say that I will stay for two more years, or five or ten.”

“I’ll never go to Bavaria, that’s for sure. That would be too hard for the Dortmund fans. No matter what they offer me, I would say no. Absolutely no way.

“I’ve played for St. Etienne and the fans told me I should never go to Lyon. So I didn’t go.”

So it looks as though Aubameyang is open to the idea of changing clubs this summer and while Madrid are probably favourites to sign him, he’d obviously be a sensational signing for Arsenal or United if they were able to win the race for his signature.

The Gunners could be eyeing Aubameyang as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez as the Chilean international is in the final 18 months of his contract and so far no agreement has been found over an extension.

However, United also need to bring in a long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the Red Devils have the financial power to match any club in the world so they shouldn’t be discounted from the running for Aubameyang’s signature if he does leave Dortmund at the end of the season.
