Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd miss out on Goncalo Guedes…

Manchester United are set to miss out on the signing of Goncalo Guedes after Paris Saint-Germain agreed a £25m deal with Benfica to sign the talented winger, according to the Mirror.

Guedes has been with Benfica his entire career having joined the clubs youth system as a youngster and he’s progressed through the ranks to become a first team regular over the past two years while earning a reputation in his homeland as the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’.

The attacker has now cemented himself as a vital part of Rui Vitoria’s starting eleven and he’s chipped in with 7 goals and 7 assists this season to help Benfica maintain their place at the top of the Primeira Liga table ahead of Porto.

The 20-year-old’s potential caught the attention of several clubs throughout Europe and the Mirror claim that Man Utd have been strongly linked with a move for the attacker with Jose Mourinho sending his scouts to watch the player several times this season.

Speculation intensified over the weekend that Guedes could be set for a move to Old Trafford after he was left out of the squad for Benfica’s 4-0 win over Tondela – which was just the second league game he’s missed all season.

However, PSG boss Unai Emery confirmed on Monday that the French champions were working on a deal to sign Guedes from under United’s noses. He’s quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“All good players are of interest to PSG and Guedes is one.”

“We are working on him and one we have the opportunity to sign.

“He is a good player, capable of playing wide or in the middle. He is a player of the future who is going to grow a lot.”

It looks as though United are now set to miss out on Guedes as the Mirror claim that the Portuguese international is heading to France after PSG agreed a £25m deal with Benfica for his signature.

The Portuguese champions are under pressure to sell due to a financial crisis at the club so it appears they’ve decided to cash in on one of their most exciting talents and unfortunately it’s not United who will be the beneficiaries.

Guedes is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions so his versatility would have been useful to Mourinho and he has a bright future ahead of him, but sadly it looks like he’ll be plying his trade in France, not England, for the foreseeable future.
