Arsenal & Tottenham To Battle-It-Out Over Signing Of French Attacker

Tottenham have joined Arsenal in the race to sign highly-rated Monaco attacker Kylian Mbappe at the end of the season, according to reports

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Tottenham join Arsenal in the chase for Kylian Mbappe….

Tottenham have joined Arsenal in the race to sign highly-rated Monaco attacker Kylian Mbappe at the end of the season, according to the Mirror.

Mbappe joined Monaco from AS Bondy in 2010 and progressed through the youth ranks before breaking in to the first team set-up in 2015.

The 18-year-old has developed in to one of the hottest young properties in Europe and took his season tally to 11 in his 23 appearances with a fine hat-trick against Metz at the weekend.

Understandably the French under-19 international has caught the attention of Arsenal with Arsene Wenger admitting earlier this month that he’s been tracking the teenager for some time.

The long-serving Gunners boss even compared Mbappe to Thierry Henry after saying the Monaco youngster has similar qualities to the Arsenal legend.

Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“We follow him, we know him very well, and he is developing well. He extended his contract with Monaco last season and so it’s Monaco who is going to decide his future. He could be another Thierry Henry.”

“He is not exactly Thierry Henry but it is true that he has similar qualities and the future and talent is similar,”

“The potential is similar, after that if he has the same level of motivation, desire and intelligence that Thierry has, and the next two to three years will tell us that, then he can be very promising.

“The guys that have super talent are already playing at 18. Those who are not playing at 18 or 19 do not have that exceptional talent and he does play over here at the top level.

“He is a guy who is electric like Thierry was, can dribble, can pass and is efficient.”

However, it looks as though Arsenal will face competition from their nearest rivals as the Mirror claims that Tottenham have now joined the chase for Mbappe’s signature.

Mauricio Pochettino tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino is building a talented young group of players at White Hart Lane and it seems the Argentinean coach wants to add Mbappe to his squad at the end of the season.

Monaco will no doubt be desperate to keep hold of the youngster but we saw with Anthony Martial joining Manchester United that they’ll cash-in if the price is right.

However, I suspect that any deal for Mbappe will eclipse the £36m United paid in 2015 as the teenager is arguably ahead of Martial at the same age and transfer fees have risen considerably over the past couple of years.
