Striker Issues Transfer Ultimatum To Club Amid Arsenal & Chelsea Interest

Alvaro Morata has issued an ultimatum to Real Madrid over his lack of playing time amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, according to reports

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, more on the future of Alvaro Morata….

Alvaro Morata has issued an ultimatum to Real Madrid over his lack of playing time amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, according to a report in the Express.

Morata rejoined Real Madrid last summer after his boyhood club triggered a buyback clause that was inserted in to the deal that saw him move to Juventus in 2014.

However, predictably, the striker has struggled to established himself as a regular under Zinedine Zidane with the likes of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale all ahead of him in the pecking order.

The 24-year-old has started just seven La Liga games so far this campaign and it appears Morata has already grown tired of sitting on the bench at the Bernabeu and is itching for a move.

The Express cite reports coming from Don Balon that claims Morata has been biting his tongue in recent months but has now issued an ultimatum to Madrid over his position in the team.

The newspaper says that the Spanish international has informed the La Liga giants that he’ll look for a move this summer if he doesn’t start seeing more regular game time over the coming months.

Morata came off the bench to score the winner during Madrid’s 3-2 comeback win over Villarreal on Sunday and Zidane admitted the striker deserves to play more often.

However, it’s still difficult to see how the former youth product will force his way in to the starting eleven on a regular basis so a move away from the Bernabeu could be on the cards this summer.

And the Express claim that Arsenal and Chelsea have now been alerted to Morata’s situation and would be ready to pounce if the striker makes it clear he want’s out of Madrid at the end of the season.

Irrespective of whether Arsene Wenger stays or leaves, Arsenal may be in the market for a top class striker if they’re forced to cash in on contract rebel Alexis Sanchez and I think Morata would fit in well at the Emirates.

However, Chelsea would provide stiff competition as Antonio Conte was the man to initially take Morata to Juventus and the Blues may need to replace Diego Costa this summer amid on-going doubts over his future following his bust-up with Conte last month.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Morata is a huge talent who has the potential to develop in to one of the best strikers in Europe if he’s given the chance, so I’d love to see him plying his trade here in England next season.
