Man Utd Boss Plotting Audacious Double Swoop On Arsenal
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with a double swoop on Arsenal….
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is plotting a sensational double swoop on Arsenal for contract rebel’s Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, according to the Express.
Both Sanchez and Ozil are approaching the final year of their contract at the Emirates and their future’s are in serious doubt as the Gunners have so far been unable to agree terms over extensions.
Sanchez is widely expected to push for a move this summer after becoming increasingly frustrated with life in north London and the Chilean international was dropped to the bench for Arsenal’s recent defeat at Liverpool following a reported training ground bust-up.
Arsenal are struggling to meet the 28-year-old’s wage demands – thought to be around £290,000-a-week – while Sanchez also has doubts over the north Londoners ability to challenge for major honours.
The Express claim that United are watching developments closely and will have no problem paying Sanchez the kind of money he’s looking for, with Paul Pogba currently on £290,000-a-week following his summer move from Juventus.
Arsenal appear resigned to losing Sanchez but are more hopeful they’ll be able to agree terms with Ozil over a new deal, especially as the playmaker recently bought a new house in London.
However, that’s not going to stop United from tying their luck as the Express cite a report from London Football that claims Mourinho is keen to be reunited with Ozil at Old Trafford this summer.
The pair know each other well from their time together at Real Madrid and Mourinho has never hidden his admiration for Ozil having previously described him as the best No.10 in the world.
The newspaper says that Mourinho is now plotting a shock move for Ozil at the end of the season if he doesn’t agree a new deal with Arsenal over the coming weeks in what could be a sensational double swoop that also involves Sanchez.
It’s certainly going to be an interesting few months at the Emirates and while it would be disappointing if they’re forced to cash-in on their star duo this summer, it would be a disaster if they ended up at United.
Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal no longer need to sell their best players to their rivals so fans will be praying the north Londoners live up to that promise if United do come calling this summer.
No doubt if Arsenal do end up selling Sanchez and Ozil, they’d prefer to do business abroad and there will be plenty of interest in both players so I still think it’s highly unlikely that either player will end up at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
