Chelsea & Man Utd Plotting Bids For Want-Away £88m-Rated Star

Chelsea and Manchester United are plotting sensational bids for Marco Verratti as Paris Saint-Germain prepare to sell the want-away midfielder if £88m is put on the table this summer, according to a report in the Express.

Verratti has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in Europe since moving to France from Pescara in 2012 and he’s been a key part of the PSG side that’s won four Ligue 1 titles over the past five seasons.

However, the Italian international’s future at the Parc des Princes is in serious doubt as widespread reports claim the midfielder is keen to leave PSG this summer.

The Express claim Barcelona is the 24-year-old’s preferred destination but so far the Catalan giants have been unable to agree a deal after seeing their £66m offer knocked back by PSG.

This has opened the door for a potential move to the Premier League as the newspaper is citing reports coming from Tuttomercato that says Chelsea and Man Utd could now join the chase for Verratti’s signature.

The Italian outlet claims that the English duo are monitoring the midfielders situation closely with Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho weighing-up offers of their own for the tenacious midfielder.

PSG have publicly insisted that Verratti isn’t for sale this summer but the Express suggest they will be prepared to do business if £88m is put on the table – a figure that Barcelona aren’t willing to meet.

Verratti is still under contract until 2021 so PSG are under no pressure to cash-in but there have been suggestions the midfielder may be prepared to go on strike to force his way out of the club.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but Verratti would be a superb signing for Chelsea or United if they could get a deal agreed for his signature.

Conte needs to strengthen his squad further ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League and Verratti could be viewed as a potential replacement for Cesc Fabregas – who’s been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Mourinho is also in the market for a central midfielder as he needs a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and Verratti would form an impressive midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera if he ends up moving to Old Trafford.
