Manchester United Set To Complete £40m Signing This Week

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Nemanja Matic is close to joining Man Utd….

Manchester United are expected to wrap-up a surprise £40m deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic over the coming days, according to a report in the Express.

Jose Mourinho is gearing-up for a busy summer in the transfer market as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League and Champions League next season.

A new holding midfielder to act as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick is on the agenda and while the likes of Eric Dier and Fabinho have been linked, Matic has emerged as a shock target in recent weeks.

The Serbian international’s future at Chelsea has been called in to question as the Express claim the Blues are closing-in on a deal to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco.

The Frenchman’s arrival would see Matic fall down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and it looks like Antonio Conte is ready to cash-in on the 28-year-old and sign-off on a deal with United.

Last week, The Sun cited a report from the Manchester Evening News that claimed Matic had agreed personal terms over a move to Old Trafford as he was keen to link-up with Mourinho again.

The ‘Special One’ re-signed Matic from Benfica during his time at Chelsea back in 2014 and the midfielder played a key role in helping the west Londoners lift the title that season so it seems the pair are keen for a reunion in Manchester.

Now, the Express are citing a report from ESPN that claims a £40m deal is close between Chelsea and United with the transfer expected to be completed within the coming days.

I must admit this proposed deal comes as a surprise as I didn’t expect Chelsea to do business with a rival but Matic should prove to be an excellent addition for United if it all goes through without a hitch.

The midfielder is set to become Mourinho’s second major signing of the summer after United snapped-up Swedish centre-back Victor Lindelof from Benfica earlier this month.
