Arsenal Respond To Chelsea’s £40m Bid By Offering Star New Lucrative Contract

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal offer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain an improved contract…

Arsenal have responded to Chelsea’s latest £40m bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain by offering the midfielder an improved deal worth £125,000-a-week, according to the Daily Star.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at the Emirates is in serious doubt as he’s in the final year of his contract and has shown no sign that he’s ready to pen a new deal any time soon.

Arsene Wenger has insisted all summer that the midfielder, together with fellow contract rebels Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, won’t be sold even if he doesn’t sign an extension.

However, that hasn’t stopped teams like Chelsea from showing an interest and the Daily Star claim the Blues have tested Arsenal’s resolve with a new offer worth £40m after Antonio Conte identified The Ox as a top transfer target.

Conte is desperately trying to further strengthen his squad before the end of the month and the versatile Oxlade-Chamberlain would offer competition to Victor Moses at right wing-back and be another option in midfield.

The newspaper report says the 24-year-old is tempted by the prospect of playing for the defending Premier League champions after rejecting Arsenal’s initial offer of less than £100,000-a-week.

However, it seems the Gunners aren’t ready to lose the England international just yet as the Daily Star suggest the north Londoners have responded to Chelsea’s attempts by offering Oxlade-Chamberlain a fresh deal worth £125,000-a-week.

That would make the midfielder one of the clubs top earners and the report says Arsenal are now confident Oxlade-Chamberlain will accept the lucrative contract and commit his future to the Emirates.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop as I’m sure Chelsea will be prepared to also offer Oxlade-Chamberlain a bumper deal if he moved to Stamford Bridge so it will be interesting to see how things play out.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has started both of Arsenal’s league games so far this season so he’s clearly in Wenger’s plans but it remains to be seen whether that and a lucrative contract will be enough to persuade him to remain in north London

What a slap in the face to that of
    Theo Walcott – 110k 19 goals 2 assist
    Giroud – 100k 12 goals 3 assist
    Iwobi – 65k 4 goals 3 assist

    Oxlade – 125k 6 total premier league goals 12 assist 6 years!
Talk about sets a bad precedence!
