Arsenal See Opening £40m Offer Knocked Back For World Class Hitman

Arsenal’s opening £40m bid for Karim Benzema has been rejected and branded as ’embarrassing’ by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez

The transfer window may be closed but clubs are still working hard ahead of January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have made an offer for Karim Benzema….

Karim Benzema

Arsenal’s opening £40m bid for Karim Benzema has been rejected and branded as ’embarrassing’ by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Benzema has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe since joining Madrid from Lyon back in 2009 as he’s provided 185 goals and 105 assists to help the club win three Champions League’s, two La Liga’s and a host of other domestic cups.

However, the French international’s future has come under scrutiny as he had one of the worst goal-scoring season’s of his career last year after finding the net just 11 times in La Liga, despite Madrid storming to the title.

Benzema has continued to struggled this term with just one league goal to his name and it’s led to strong speculation that Madrid will look to cash-in as part of a major squad overhaul.

Arsenal have constantly been linked with a move for the Frenchman for several years and it seems Arsene Wenger may have renewed his interest in the striker once again.

TeamTalk are citing a report from Diario Gol that claims Arsenal have tabled an opening £40m offer for Benzema’s services as we look to try and lure the hitman to the Emirates in January.

However, we’ll have to dig a lot deeper as the Spanish outlet says Madrid president Florentino Perez wasn’t impressed by our offer – which he feels was ’embarrassing’ and is well below their valuation.

It’s fair to say that despite his poor form of late, Benzema is still worth far more than £40m in today’s market so it’s no surprise that Madrid knocked back our reported offer.

However, I’d take these reports with a pinch of salt as I’m not sure why Wenger would be willing to spend big money on another striker just months after paying £50m to sign Alexandre Lacazette.

We still have Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck on the books so I just don’t see a striker as a priority right now and would expect the boss to be looking at attacking midfielders to replace Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil instead of another front man.
