Arsenal & Liverpool Handed Major Boost In Race To Sign Bundesliga Star

Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Max Meyer after Schalke confirmed the midfielder is considering offers to leave the club

The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are handed a boost in their pursuit of Max Meyer…

Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Max Meyer after Schalke confirmed the midfielder is considering offers to leave the club, according to a report in the Mirror.

Meyer has been with Schalke his entire career having joined the club as a youngster and he progressed through the youth ranks to emerge as one of the hottest prospects in German football.

The 22-year-old made his name as a winger but has excelled since being converted in to a deep-lying central midfielder this season and is now a key part of Domenico Tedesco’s starting eleven.

However, Meyer’s future at the Veltins Arena is in serious doubt as his contract is due to expire as the end of the season and he’s so far rejected all attempts from Schalke to tie him down to an extension.

The situation has alerted Premier League clubs as the Mirror claim that both Arsenal and Liverpool are showing a keen interest in offering Meyer a new challenge here in England this summer.

The duo have now been handed a boost as Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed that Meyer is considering offers to leave the club at the end of the season.

Heidel is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“It is clear that Max and his advisors are exploring the market. And we’re not doing anything different.”

Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new midfielder this summer as Santi Cazorla is unlikely to play for the north Londoners again while Jack Wilshere’s future is also in doubt and it seems Meyer has been identified as a summer target.

However, the Gunners will face competition as Jurgen Klopp is also needing to sign another midfielder with Emre Can tipped to join Juventus when his contract expires in June and Meyer could be viewed as a replacement.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Meyer would be an excellent signing on a free transfer if Arsenal or Liverpool are able to win the race for his signature.
