Arsenal have stepped up their interest in signing Manchester United target Andrija Zivkovic after sending scouts to watch the £6.3m-rated Benfica winger, according to the Sun.

Zivkovic came through the youth ranks at Partizan Belgrade and burst on to the scene aged just 17 with the teenager providing 24 goals and 13 assists in 93 games to earn a move to Benfica in 2016.

The 21-year-old has continued to forge a reputation as one of the most exciting young attackers in Portuguese football as he’s racked up 45 appearances for Benfica over the past 18 months.

Zivkovic has also made an impression at international level as he has 7 caps for the senior Serbian team after helping the Under-20’s win the World Cup in the summer of 2016.

His potential has alerted clubs here in the Premier League as the Sun claims that Manchester United and Arsenal have been showing a keen interest in signing the winger this summer.

The newspaper says United have regularly sent their scouts to watch Zivkovic in action this season as Jose Mourinho draws-up a list of transfer targets ahead of the summer window.

However, the Red Devils will face stiff competition as Arsenal have also been tracking the youngster in recent months and the Gunners stepped-up their interest over the weekend.

The Sun claims that Arsenal scouts were in the stands to watch Zivkovic put in a goal-scoring performance as Benfica thrashed Maritimo 5-0 at the Estadio da Luz on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure following a disastrous campaign at the Emirates but it seems he’s still pressing ahead with his summer transfer plans and Zivkovic is firmly on his radar.

The report says Benfica value the versatile attacker at around £6.3m – which shouldn’t be a problem for the likes of Arsenal or United – so it will be interesting to see if either club decides to formalise their interest over the coming months.
