Arsenal Ready To Pounce As £20m Reina Wants Out Of Liverpool

By on March 20, 2011

Pepe Reina has further fuelled the fire about speculation that he will quit Anfield in the Summer. The Spanish shot-stopper has frequently been linked with a move away from Liverpool this season and he is quoted in todays press as saying:

“We have to strengthen,” Reina told the Daily Star. “If we want to improve then we have to do that.

“It is our duty to be strong, to get better.

“The only thing I can do is train and do my best. Who knows if I have got years left?

“It’s not about being patient. It’s about the club winning and I want to be competitive.

“We used to fight to be among the top team and be in the Champions League.

“Sadly that’s not the case now. I want to win titles.”

It appears that the keeper, good as he has been for Liverpool, is actively seeking a move away from Anfield following the departure of compatriots manager Rafa Benitez and players Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso in the past two seasons.

It is believed that our keeper has a £20 million buyout clause in his six-year contract and that Arsene Wenger is willing to meet that price following the poor displays by Almunia and co.

Maybe Liverpool should go for out-of-favour Shay Given of Man City? The Irish International who is very talented and experienced and would be an ideal replacement should Reina decide to leave in the summer.

Desperate Arsenal are welcome to him. The sooner this clanger dropper leaves, the better. He is not the best keeper in the world.

For 20 million I wouldn’t care in the least which club he signs for. If he doesn’t want to stay here then we sell him, just like Nando, just like Mascherano, just like Xabi. It will be another massive profit on a player who only truly because great at this club. We paid 6.5 million for Pepe and I have every confidence we would pay something similar for his replacement who would do just as good a job. He’s good, but he’s still Spain’s number 2 and I just don’t see the need to splash so much money on a shot stopper. It seems absurd that Arsenal, a team so renowned for developing young players, would pay so much for a goalkeeper.

Which is why they wont. You said it!!! Arsenal will not waste that sort of money on a non world class keeper when they have one of the best young goalies in the league.

Good goalkeeper is very important. Arsenal did not win any trophy is because they have crap keepers for years. And for Man U, before Van der Sar join them, they did not win anything.

    not this old chesnut again…

who G.A.F. any more whether Reina stays or leaves LFC for £20 mil? after the Torres saga, does he really think we fans give a toss about players/media comments?

we only want people who want to play for LFC. we once sold clemence once and got grobbelaar in, sorted.

like others have said, £13.5 mil profit out of arsenal’s coffers in return for Spain’s no 2 keeper would be welcome in my view, and it would be good riddance to yet another spanish glory hunter, which could easily be replaced by any number of young up and coming goalkeepers, and for substantially less than £13.5 mil profit we would make on Reina.

Even if he leaves we got Peter Gulacsi coming in,a young understudy of Pepe!!but still Reina has recently said all that staff because he wants the club to go forward..he is right to ask players coming in as Liverpool are s**t right now but he’s gonna give NESV a chance, something Torres didnt do..right now i am confident for Kenny and NESV to succeed at Liverpool but surely it’s one step at a time for us..we cant just hope to bring 15 players and sell 15 at summer!!but we could bring 6,7 ones and sell like 5,6 flops..the team will get better and better with new and young faces coming at Liverpool but NESV must show us come summer that they are the right people for the club..they gotta do 2 things:1)bring better players and offload the flops,2)do something with the stadium..i love Anfield and it is a legendary stadium to have but unless we renovate it and make it a 65.000 seater i want something to be done..those two things must be solved come summer and then give the squad time to gel together..

Why the hell would Reina join Arsenal? United will be looking for a new keeper and they aren’t afraid to strengthen when needed. Wenger is scared to spend that much in case the player flops and he is held responsible. Why would he risk it when fans and board are happy to bumble along with free transfers and kids that can soak up any blame and turn it into experience.

With top players Wenger would then HAVE to win something, as it is he doesn’t.

why the hell go for reina?why is always a pasnic buying,we have two young keepers, and should have faith in both of them, needless talking, like buying this keeper and that keeper,do more harm, than good to their confidence, let them fight it out between the two of them ,competion within the club is healthy

God help us if Reina arrrives at the Emirates – he’s a spectacularly dodgy keeper and his mistakes would undermine any attempt to improve the back five. Szczesny looks extremely promising and if we’re going to take the loot for Fabregas – spend the money on big centre-backs: Sakho of Paris St Germain, Cahill of Bolton and Vertonghen of Ajax (and move Vermaelen to left-back, where his attacking instincts would prosper); swap Denilson for Melo (plus cash) and trade Bendtner for a genuine gaol-scorer and Arshavin for Hazard. Rebuilding done – but can we survive without Cesc – injury-prone and all as he is?

also sell RVP and bendtner cuz theyr injuredn more often that
not, bring in a striker like Zlatan. then sell sagna and bring in Lahm to up the quality of crosses. And a replacement for Song, he gets to many yellow cards…

After what i’ve seen this season,Arsenal need more than just a goalkeeper, first of all we need a new manager, pay him off and start afresh, then get rid of all
fringe players, and fradgile players, them that are always
in the medical room season after season, start spending
money from our,so called transfer chest, get some big
strong lads, the sort that can take a knock. The next
manager we get wants to be a football man ,not an accountant.

Pepe is worth £20m if not more. Who ever doesn’t think he is world class needs to visit spec savers or do something they understand because football aint one of this things. A world class keeper for any league winning hopefuls is a must. I think if he leaves ferguson will buy him though I wish webber would. However, we have limited money so what we do next yr will depend on the league position we finish in the players we sell. We may need a keeper but more importantly we need a big strong defender and defensive midfielder and then a keeper.
    Wenger will sell this summer:
Rosicky – he has lost his pace
Fab – he wants to be at another club
Arashavin -he is at that age where wenger likes to cash in. But he adds goals so mayb one more yr max
Clichy- if he doesn’t sign extension
    Almunia- need I say why?
Denilson- his days are numbered. Not developed like he should have
Utility players- young players who want first team football but cannot have it. Mayb bendtner, vela etc
So we will need replacements. Wenger will asses the squad and see if he can bring some players in from the youth set up the rest will have to be bought. If we get the £35+m chances are wenger will splash a little cash! In wenger we trust? Why, cause he builds teams. Otherwise you hatred go support rich man city or wanker banker!!!

Outrageous claim. Wenger will never in a million years pay 20mil for goalkeeper. He’s never spent that much for an outfield player, what makes you he’ll break his philosophy after 15+ years at arsenal. Whoever wrote this BS get a proper job and stop posting propaganda in the internet. Arsenal’s time will come. Sometimes patience IS the virtue.

Ronan – i think you have been reading my previous comments on other blogs, however, i have heard we could get Subotic from Dortmund who are said to be interested in Rosicky and Bendtner. We could then p/ex Squillaci and Diaby for Hazard which is very much on the cards. I also hear that Denilson and Traore could be swapped for Melo, he is a bit of a nutter, but then again so was Vieira. I do not believe we need a new keeper, i honestly think that Wenger will offer Lehmann another year as 4th choice player/coach to Sczcesney, Mannone and Fabianski, whilst releasing Almunia. With those 7 players out and those 3 in along with the return of some of the loanees, that is all the business we need to do, IMO. A strike force of RVP, Chamakh, Walcott, Vela, Hazard, Emmanuel-Thomas, Afobe, Botelho, will do for me. Midfield options of Fabregas, Wilshere, Song, Ramsey, Melo, Nasri, Lansbury, Frimpong, Coquelin. Centre halves Subotic, Vermaelen, Djourou, Koscielny, Bartley, Miquel. Fullbacks Sagna, Eboue, Eastmond, Clichy, Gibbs, Cruise. However, if we could stretch to it i would like us to sign Van Der Weil and Vertonghen we could sell Eboue and Clichy to help.

I agree with Ronan. If we can get in Sakho, Cahill/Vertonghen and let Koschieny be back up with occassional substitution, Vermelen as a left back and Sangyna of the right. Melo in front of the back four and Nasri in the position of Cesc. Hazard in for Arshavin and a striker such as Lukaku then we can be sure of trebble in Englang and possibly Champions league trophy. Our goalkeeping area is not entirely a problem. With Szczesny, Fabiansky and Mamone, i don’t see what Pepe is coming to do. The defenders will provide enough cover and take proper control of the defence.

Anyone who wants to leave now just when things are looking positive again will be silly. The time to leave was under the H & G reign of unfulfilled promises and lies. But now things are looking positive for LFC again after first facing threat of Administration , then Relegation now we are safe and with an outside chance of 5th place and in terms of points in 2011 , only Man utd and Arsenal have collected more points than us since the turn of the year. We need to sign a few more players in the summer – creative ones in particular and we’ll be contenders once again.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, look at how many goals & assists Torres is banging in for Chelsea, he’s sure proving his 50M pounds worth 😉
